What is mannat?
A
There are 2 types: Mannat eshari and Mannat e urfi. The first is when one makes it necessary on themselves for the sake of Allah. The person is a sinner if he does not carry them out. The second is when it is not wajib to fulfil the vow.

Can mannat e urfi be done of a prophet or chosen person of Allah?
A
Yes. This is called mannat e urfi or niyaaz. However mannat e shari can only be done for Allah.

Which precautions should be taken when making a vow?
A
Even if a vow is not mannat e shari, it is mustahb for him to fulfil the vow of a good act. One should be careful not to join anything against sharia to a vow. However, gathering and committing sins and telling made up stories is forbidden.
