Hazrat Aisha narrates that she was permitted to give sawaab to her mother after her demise by the Holy Prophet.
Hazrat Saad bin Ubadah was told by the Prophet to give ‘water’ as charity for his deceased mother and so he built a well for her reward.
For which deeds can the reward be given as esaal e sawaab?
Any good deeds such as Salah, fasting, charity.

Shah Wali Allah Muhaddith Dahlawi writes that Shah Abdul Rahim Sahib says on the day of Prophet Muhammads departure, they did not have anything to give as niyaaz so they ended up giving chickpeas and gur. At night Muhaddith saw that the prophet had all kinds of food present and amongst them chickpeas and gur was present. The Prophet expressed happiness. He asked for some and ate it and then distributed some to the companions.
Is esaal e sawaab done on a specific day or can it be done on any day?
You can present esaal e sawaab any time. Setting a certain day or time is not forbidden as this will allow people to gather easily. It is necessary to stay away from the idea that esaal e sawaab can only be performed on a specific day.
What is the 3rd, 10th, 40th?
If khatams are done on the 2nd day, this is called dooja. If it is done on the 3rd day it is called theeja. If it is done on the 10th day it is called daswan. If it is done on the 40th day it is called chaliswan or chehlam. If it is done after a year, it is called barsi.
Who can eat the food of esaal e sawaab?
Relatves, the poor, etc
It is necessary to have food present when doing Fatiha?
No, however it is not prohibited either.
How is it to serve water or drink in Muharram ul Haram?
If its intention is good then it is mustahab. In a Hadith it is stated, ‘when your sins increase, pour water on water, then your sins will be swept away like the leaves of a tree in a strong wind.’
Is it permissible to do niyaaz for Gyarnwee?
Yes. It leads to reward and is a sign of love for the pious predecessors.
In Rajab it is a tradition to give kundoon nayaaz. Is this permisible?
Yes. This happens on 22nd of Rajab and is permissible.
What is the method of doing esaal e sawaab?
Place the food or a portion of each dish in front of everyone. Recite tauwwaz and tasmiyya. Recite Surah Kafiroon once, Surah Ahad thrice, Surah Falq, Surah Nas, and Surah Fatiha once. Then recite Surha Bakara and durood sheriff and a dua. Then do esaal e sawaab.
