Natural hazards Flashcards
what are natural hazards
pose potential risk of damage to property and loss of life
what increases the potential risk of natural hazards
the more humans that come into contact with the natural event
state 4 types of natural hazard
tectonic-movement of tectonic plates eg earthquakes tsunamis
atmospheric eg hurricanes
geomorpholigacal - flooding
biological - involve living organisms eg forest fires
how are the catorgories linked why does it make them difficult to categorise
tsunamis are a tectonic hazard but also caused by a landslide they can by caused by more than one process
what are natural hazards caused by
some by natural proceses others by human influences eg forest fires in calafornia in 2014 were caused by arson
are all regions of the world equally prone to natural hazards
no some regions are more vulnerable
why are the incidences of natural hazards occuring globally increasing
because of human influences eg global warming, deforestation and urbanisation
what is the result of human influences on natural hazards
occuring more often and greater magnitude (strength)
what is causing the incidences and magnitude of natural hazards to increase
growing population and the locations they choose to live
