Myology Flashcards
Muscle Tissue, 3 kinds:
Smooth
Cardiac striated
Skeletal striated
Smooth Muscle
non striated, smooth
in blood vessels, airways, most organs
fx: paracentesis, vasoconstriction (involuntary movement)
Cardiac Striated Muscle
striated, branching
heart
involuntary contraction and relaxation rythm
Skeletal Striated Muscle
striated, many nuclei
everywhere (around skeleton)
move bones (voluntary)
3 types of skeletal muscle
red Slow oxidative (Type 1)–resistant to fatigue
red Fast oxidative (Type 2a) – looks like type 1, acts like 2
white Fast-Glycolytic (Type 2b)- not fatigue resistant
Fx of Muscle Tissue
Movement
Support and maintain posture
Heat production ie shivering
Muscle the Organ
macroscopic view
Muscle Belly Tendons Enthesis of Tendon-- dense regular c.t. between tendon and bone. ie bicep fixed end at scapula mobile end at antebrachium
Micro Anatomy of a muscle
(connective tissue)
EPEF-any
Endomysium–surrounds muscle cells
Perimysium- surrounds endomysium units
Epimysium- surrounds perimysium (muscle)
Fascia- surrounds muscles as one
(fyi: on drawing endo’s extend past muscle cells, peri’s past that, and epi’s surround and extend past that)
