What does Mycoplasma cause?
Atypical pneumonia “walking pneumonia”
*incubation time of 3-4 weeks
(weird pneumonic: WALK down MY(coplasma) block)
How would a Mycoplasma “Walking pneumonia infection present?
May be biphasic (two stages), gradual inset
-Most people will be asymptomatic or have mild respiratory illness
-Bronchitis of pneumonia can follow upper respiratory symptoms with insufficient cough/mucus
How can you diagnose Mycoplasma “walking pneumonia”?
-Usually clinical diagnosis
-Possibly chest x-ray
How can a Mycoplasma “walking pneumonia” infection be treated?
-Macrolides: Azithromycin
-Doxycycline
-Quinolones: Levaquin, Moxifloxacin
