A

-Abrupt flu-like illness
-Headache
-Myalgia
-Nausea/Vomiting
-maculopapular exanthem (rash may indicate a co-infection with another tick-borne disease like Lyme)

How would you diagnose Anaplasma infection?

A

-Serology (blood)
-PCR
-Increased LFT’s
-Leukopenia (small WBC)
-thromboytopenia (low platelet count)
-Morulae (micro-colonies) on blood smear

How can you treat Anaplasma infections

A

-Doxycycline (this can also help with early treatment of Lyme disease)

If patient is pregnant: Rifampin (this will not treat Lyme disease)
