A

Transferred by coughing, causes respiratory disease

What is the incubation time for Bordatella?

A

7-10 days after exposure symptoms will occur (someone can already be contagious before they start coughing, spreading it unknowingly)

How does a Bordatella infection present?

A

3 Stages:
-Catarrhal: sniffles, cough, cold like symptoms for 2 weeks

-Paroxysmal: whopping cough, post-tussis vomiting (vomiting after coughing), incontinence for 2-6 weeks

-Convalent: dry and nagging cough, no longer infectious

(weird pneumonic: CATs Pee CONstantly, to remember the stages)

How can a Bordatella infection be treated?

A

VACCINATION! Prevention

-Azithromycin
-Bactrim

Prophylaxis,or medicating to prevent the disease can be done in people exposed (only effective if the person was exposed less than 3 weeks before prophylactic treatment)
