MOTOR TRACT PATHWAYS Flashcards
Medial corticospinal tract pathway
Origin- Primary motor cortex
Decussation- ipsilateral at level of spinal cord
Termination- cell bodies of LMN- trunk, neck, shoulders
What is the function of the medial corticospinal tract?
Volitional trunk movement
Lateral corticospinal tract pathway
Origin- primary motor cortex
Decussation- pyramids of medulla
Termination- cell bodies of LMN, UE and LE
What is the function of the lateral corticospinal tract?
Fractionated movement
Reticulospinal tract pathway
Origin- reticular formation
Termination- cell body of LMN- trunk, shoulders, hips (postural control)
What is the function of the reticulospinal tract?
Anticipatory postural control and walking pattern
Medial vestibulospinal tract pathway
Origin- medial vestibular nucleus
Termination- LMN of neck and upper back
What is the function of the Medial vestibulospinal tract?
Postural control of neck and upper back
Lateral vestibulospinal tract pathway
Origin- lateral vestibular nucleus
Termination- LMN- inhibit flexors
What is the function of the Lateral vestibulospinal tract?
Inhibits flexors and activates extensors
Corticobrainstem pathway
Origin- primary motor cortex
Decussation- bilateral in brainstem
What is the function of the corticobrainstem?
Motor to the face
What happens if there is a lesion at the corticobrainstem?
Contralateral lower face impaired
What happens if there is a lesion at the CN coming from the corticobrainstem?
Entire ipsilateral face impaired
