Cognition (2) Flashcards
What does cognition include?
Motivation, attention, learning, memory, and communication
Where are the areas of cognition and emotion?
Frontal lobe and parietal-temporal lobe (parts of brain that isn’t directly involved in sensory or movement)
Where is the amygdala located?
Temporal lobe
What does the amygdala interpret?
Other people’s facial expressions, body language, and social cues

What is the function of Broca’s area?
Language output instructions (able to say what you want to say)
What hemisphere is important in spatial orientation?
Right parietal
What hemisphere is important in focusing attention and facial recognition?
Right temporoparietal
What hemisphere is important in producing a plan for non verbal communication?
Right frontal lobe (opposite to Broca’s)
What hemisphere is important for interpreting non verbal communication from others?
Right temporoparietal (opposite of wernickes)
Broca’s aphasia
Limited speech output but can control muscles to speak
Wernickes aphasia
Can speak but do not understand language and speak gibberish
