Q

Extrinsic vs intrinsic

A

Extrinsic motives:
—attract to the activity and provide early motivation.
—If used too much may undermine value of the activity and therefore Intrinsic motivation, players compete just for the reward.
—Extrinsic rewards may create pressure on players to achieve and if they don’t get the reward, motivation can be lost. The same pressure may also promote cheating
Intrinsic motives:
—Intrinsic rewards are more effective, stronger and long lasting, they give more satisfaction and pride and a sense of control.
