Module 38 Flashcards
intelligence test
method for assessing an individuals mental aptitudes & compares them with others, using numerical scores
achievement test
a test designed to assess what someone has learned
aptitude test
a test designed to predict a persons future performance
APTITUDE: the capacity to learn
mental age
the level of performance typically associated with a certain chronological age
EX. a child who does as well as an average 8 year old will be said to have a mental age of 8
Stanford-Binet Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
the widely used American revision of Binets original intelligence test
- terman
Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)
most widely used intelligence tests, contain verbal and performance (nonverbal) subtests
IQ
a persons mental age divided by chronological age and multiplied by 100
standardization
defining uniform testing procedures & meaningful scores by comparison w/the performance of a pretested group
normal curve
bell curve on a graph, about 68% fall within one standard deviation
reliability
the extent to where a test yields consistent results, assessed by the consistency of scores on 2 halves of the test, on alternative forms of the test, or retesting
validity
the extent to where the test actually measures or predicts what it promises
content validity
the extent to which a test samples the behavior that is of interest
predictive validity
the success w/which a test predicts the behavior its designed to predict
- assessed by computing the correlation between test scores + the criterion behavior
galton
nature vs nurture
hereditary
binet
made the first intelligence test, designed for children based off mental age
