inattentional blindness
when people fail to see visible objects when our attention or focus is directed elsewhere
change blindness
when people fail to notice changes in the visual environment
choice blindness
the failure to recall a choice immediately after making it
transduction
conversion of one form of energy into another form, like turning light waves into neural impulses our brain can interpret
what is a different threshold and why is it important to humans?
difference threshold is the minimum stimulus difference a person can detect half the time. important bc it can help us understand why people may/may not sense the progress they make
what does Webers law say about human perception?
says that for an average person to percieve a difference, two stimuli must differ by a constant minimum percentage
what determines if a signal is subliminal?
subliminal sensations are stimuli so weak that we dont consciously notice them
how does priming work?
priming is used to activated unconscious associations, its when a subliminal stimuli influences a resposne to a subsequent stimulus
