Q

Explain common use and its advantages/disadvantages

A

the flexible and shared use of airport facilities. It provides a platform for airlines, airports, and ground handling agents to optimize passenger processing

advantages: allows an airport operator to utilize space and increase capacity while reducing overhead, more efficient use of space and reduced expenses for both airlines and airports

disadvantages: additional maintenance and management of CUTE equipment for the airport, and loss of some control at ticket counters and loss of branding opportunities at gate areas for airlines

Q

What’s the FAA’s position on co-located ARFF/SRE facilities?

A

the can be centralized at smaller airports due to staffing. But at larger airports there should be separate room from the facilities of other airport departmental functions. This avoids delayed emergency response vehicles and operation conflicts and ensures the accountability of federal dollars if the building is funded by the FAA

19
Q

How many sq feet should you have per passenger?

A

150

20
Q

What is linear tickiting

A

What you normally thing of

21
Q

What is pass-through process

A

self tagging bag, using a kiosk, and putting bag to a conveyor or TSA agent (iceland)

22
Q

what is the island configuration

A

self-service kiosks with a roving airline or ticket agent (think ORD)

23
Q

what is curbside check in

A

you have used this at ORD

24
Q

What % of passengers should the departure lounges hold?

A

15-25% of boarding passengers on the largest aircraft using that gate

25
Q

What % should the common lobby area hold?

A

60-70% of the peak hourly enplaning passengers for all gates combined

26
Q

What is an O&D airport?

A

Origin and Destination
Passengers start and end their trip at with little to no connecting flights
two or more peak-hour periods
Denver, Orlando, Vegas

27
Q

What is a Hub/Connecting airport?

A

serves passengers who transfer to other flights at a connecting point
steady passengers
Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas
50% of passengers connecting to other flights

28
Q

What is a Through airport?

A

passenger processing functions concentrated in a relatively small terminal building
low percentages of originating flights

29
Q

What is the Horizontal concept

A

the distribution of passengers through each level of the terminal building

30
Q

What is the Vertical concept

A

the separation of arriving and departing passengers and sometimes the separation of private and commercial vehicle traffic

31
Q

What are the four basic terminal configurations?

A
  1. Liner
  2. Pier
  3. Satellite
  4. Hard-stand
32
Q

Linear Terminal

A

long buildings with airport parked perpendicular

33
Q

Pier Terminal

A

extensions of the terminal moving into the apron areas (north terminal)

34
Q

Satellite Terminal

A

feature concourses physically separated from the main terminal building

35
Q

Hard-Stand Terminal

A

refers to remote areas on the airfield, usually on the reinforced pavement where aircraft park

36
Q

Unit-terminal

A

a series of terminal buildings that are not connected physically but are connected through airside and landside methods

37
Q

Hybrid Terminal

A

layouts result from modifying an existing airport facility or building that no longer needs the needs, resulting in designs combining features of centralized and decentralized airports

38
Q

What is CUTE

A

common-use terminal equipment

39
Q

What is CUSS

A

the common use self service

40
Q

What are the five essential customer touchpoints?

A
  1. Physical
  2. Subliminal
  3. Human
  4. Procedural
  5. Communicative
41
Q

What is a physical touchpoint

A

airports layout and design, ease of use, access to concessions, ect

42
Q

What is a subliminal touchpoint

A

the overall atmosphere and “fee” of the airport

43
Q

What is a procedural touchpoint?

the processes encountered by the passenger including screening checkpoint, ticketing and bag handling, lost and found ect

44
Q

What are the three things that ADA covers?

A
  1. ensure new buildings are designed and constructed to be free of barriers that restrict access
  2. ensure that existing facilities are altered to be accessible
  3. furnish auxiliary aids, services, and or telecommunication devices
45
Q

What does American with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) ensure?

A

That buildings, facilities and vehicles covered by the law are accessible to individuals with disabilities in terms of architecture, design, transportation, and communication

46
Q

For an individual, what does “disability” mean?

A
  1. physical or mental impairment
  2. record of such impairment
  3. being regarded as having such impairment
47
Q

What is the application of ADA to tenants?

A

it is a place of public accommodation under title III so we must comply (even though most airports are title II)
