What are the main components of the musculo-skeletal system?
Bones, joints, muscles, tendons
What are the main components of the central nervous system?
Brain and spinal cord
What are the main components of the cardiovascular system?
Heart and blood vessels
What are the main components of the respiratory system?
Air passages and lungs
What are the main components of the gastrointestinal system?
Digestive tract (mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestines). The liver, gallbladder, biliary duct system and pancreas are accessory organs.
What are the main components of the endocrine system?
Hypothalamus and pituitary gland, plus reproductive glands, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenal glands and part of the pancreas.
What are the main components of the urinary system?
Kidneys, ureters, urethra.
What are the main components of the lymphatic system?
Lymph ducts and glands, and spleen.
What are the main components of the sensory system?
Ear, nose and throat.
What is the purpose of the skin?
Protection and sensory receptor
What is the purpose of the lymphatic system?
Concerned with the body’s tissue fluid and defence of the body against invasion by foreign material, e.g. bacteria
What is the purpose of the reproductive system
Reproduction!!
What is the purpose of the urinary system?
Responsible for the balance of water and salts (electrolytes) in the body
What is the purpose of the endocrine system?
Production and regulation of the body’s chemical messengers (hormones)
What is the purpose of the gastrointestinal system?
This system transforms and conveys nutrients and other essentials derived from ingested food to body cells, and collects waste products.
