Mod 6 Lesson 4 Flashcards
What is electron density?
The probability of where an electron is found inside an atom.
What is an E-shell?
The total number of orbitals with the same principal quantum number, n.
What is an orbital?
Where electrons can be found inside an atom; has its own unique set of energies and shapes.
What are quantum numbers?
Three numbers that provide an accurate location of the electrons within an atom.
What is radial probability density?
Probability of the radius of an electron to the location of a proton in the nucleus within a spherical shell.
What is a radial probability function graph?
A graph that shows the radial probability densities for orbitals as a function of distance from the nucleus.
What is a subshell?
All orbitals that have the same values of n and l.
