levels of physical assist
A
- independent: pt does not require any assistance to complete task
- supervision: pt requires PT to observe throughout completion of task
- contact guard: pt requires PT to maintain contact w/ pt to complete task, usually needed to assist if there is a LOB
- minimal assist: pt requires 25% assist from PT to complete task
- moderate assist: pt requires 50% assist from PT to complete task
- maximal assist: pt requires 75% assist from PT to complete a task
- dependent: pt is unable to participate and PT must provide all effort to perform task

- heel to popliteal fold and add 2 in for footrest clearance
- average adult size: 19.5-20.5 in

- post buttock along lat thigh to popliteal fold, then subtract 2 in

- seat of chair to floor of axilla w/ shoulder flexed to 90 degrees and subtract 4 in

A
- seat of chair to olecranon process w/ elbow flexed to 90 degrees and add 1 in
- average adult size: 9 inch above chair seat

- bar height that allows for 20-25 degrees of elbow flexion whil grasping bars 4-6 inches in front of body
walker also allows 20-25 degrees of flexion at elbow

fitting axillary crutches
A
- fit with crutches 6 in in front and two in lateral to patient
- crutch height should allow 3 fingers between top of crutch and axilla
- handgrip to ulnar styloid process and allow 2-25 degrees of elbow flexion
- lofstrand/forearm crutches: same but arm cuff 1-1.5 in below olecranon
