Setting/ location

A

Provides information to orientate viewers. Creates mood and guides out attention. Plays significant part in the action. communicates themes and comments on action. Reflects a characters emotional state of mind and contributes to dramatic impact by building a certain expectations.

Props

A

Objects in setting which play a part in the action or representation. May set the plot in motion and reinforce the genre for example, stakes in vampire films.

Costume, hair and makeup

A

Convey a characters personality or status. Draws attention to differences between characters. May be realistic or stylised suggest genre. Set scene in past, present future. Anchored setting and culture, 19th century Transylvania. May be symbolic or stereotypical e.g draculars face suggests that he’s dead

A

Particular colours may be highlighted to draw attention to items. Different colours or shades convey meaning, e.g red=blood and danger. Darkness=secrets and evil
