genres are made for audiences to understand and categories what they desire to see in the film so that they know whether they will gain pleasure from a specific genre or not
subversion of expectation and its impact
has to do wit using plot twists in a story to surprise and challenge an audience. however violating the audience expectations might cause audience members to view the speaker with skepticism or even with open hostility. however it can also enhance storytelling. twisting a story can improve the audiences experience because it adds shock value
subgenres
a subgenre is a smaller and more specific genre within a broader genre, they are not the same as hybrid genres or mashups. for example, action suspense thrillers, conspiracy thriller, erotic thrillers and more. real text example include slashers such as friday the 13th and the nightmare on elm street. zombies-shaun of the dead
subversions of genre
subverting a genre means going against the expectations of convention and form. for example, the true man show 1998 is a comedy drama film that subverts the reality TV genre by showing the protagonists life which is actually a televised show, and commenting on the ethical existential implications of such a scenario.
hybrid
hybrid genres means the sharing of conventions of more then one film. for example, Dr. Who is a sci-fi action adventure drama and strictly come dancing is a talent, reality and entertainment show. the twilight films are a hybrid genre, combining horror, fantasy, teen and romance.
characterisation
is the process of inventing a character. in a well written film this stage will have been given lots of thought and the characters will have been given set characteristics and traits. a detailed approach to characterisation will result in more compelling characters and may held avoid stereotypes. it is done through dialogue, actions, descriptions, costuming, hair, and makeup.
