Explain mineral resources and how they are used (4 marks)
Mineral resources are the inorganic compounds found in the Earth’s crust and they must be extracted first to be utilised. This process of extraction however has a negative impact on the surroundings and affects the people in the area as well. They are crucial in the development of a country, because they provide the materials for large scale industries (such as, by burning coal, or generating electricity)
What type of resource is Natural Gas. List three ways we use it. (4 marks)
Natural gas is a non - renewable, clean and efficient source of energy. In fact, it is the most important energy resource of Bangladesh. It can be transferred through a system of pipelines and then distributed to homes and industries for cooking and heating purposes. It is also used as fuel for vehicles (in its compressed form - CNG). Natural gas is also environmentally friendly because it releases lesser quantities of harmful gases when in use. Lastly, it is a cheap source of energy.
Which renewable energy resources are used in Bangladesh
Solar energy, hydro power and wind power is used in Bangladesh. The uses of these renewable energy ensures the protection of our environment nd also helps us develop the country’s economy. The country’s largest solar power plant is located in Sundarganj in Gaibandha. The Karnaphuli Hydropower Station is the only hydropower plant in Bangladesh, situate in the district of Rangamati and Chittagong. Lastly the wind farm at Khurushkul in Cox’s Bazar is currently being built.
