Q

What is a trophic level

A

The various steps in a food chain at which the transfer of food/energy takes place from one organism to another organism is known as trophic level.

Q

What is a food web

A

A food web is all of the food chains in an ecosystem connected to each other. Each organism in an ecosystem occupies a specific level/position in a food chain. For example producers make up the start of our ecosystem.

Q

What is a habitat

A

It is a place where a group of organisms can live. Different places/habitats have different types of organisms living in it.

11
Q

What are the three types of ecological pyramids

A
  1. Pyramid of Numbers - which show the number of organisms at a trophic level in a particular habitat.
  2. Pyramid of Mass - shows the total mass of all the organisms at diff. trophic levels “ “ “ “ “ “
  3. Pyramid of Energy - shows the amount of energy being passed down the food chain at different levels

Q

the width of the box shows…

A

how many organisms are present at a trophic level

15
Q

The _______ the box (in the pyramid is), the _____ _________ of organisms there are

A

wider, more number

16
Q

As you go __________up the pyramid, the ________ of organisms _______

A

higher, amount, decrease

17
Q

The pyramid shape depends on …

A

the organisms in the habitat

18
Q

Why are fungi and bacteria important?

A

They are both decomposers which have a special way of obtaining food.
(They break down dead organisms into simple substances and absorb that substances)
When they do this, they clean up the environment and the leftovers are absorbed back into the soil and get recycled.
These nutrients are important for the soil and more organisms can be grown using them. They clean up the environment as well, by doing this.
