- Sedation
- Conscious sedation
- Anxiolytic for intubation

Contraindications
A
- Coma
- Glaucoma
- Shock
- Depressed vitals
- Alcohol and drug OD
- Do not use with other CNS depressants (barbiturates, narcotics, ETOH)

- Oversedation
- Hypotension
- Resp depression & arrest
- Blurry vision
- Hiccup
- Cough
- N/V
- HA
- Injection site pain

Drug interactions
A
- Do not use if pt has taken CNS depressants

Dosage
A
-
Adult:
- 2 - 2.5 mg slow IV push over 2-3 min
- May repeat to total dose of 0.1 mg/kg
- Not for peds

Duration of action
A
- Onset: 1-3 min
- Peak: Varies
- Duration: 2-6 hrs, dose dependant

Special considerations
A
- Pregnancy: Cat D
- Monitor resp and cardiac function
- Never give as a bolus
- Give just prior to intubating
