What are some common functional syndromes?
IBS, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, TMJ, multiple chemical senstivities
What are the common symptoms?
fatigue, sleep issues, MSK pain, HA, GI problems
What are pt identifiers for mental health screening?
i. Medically unexplained physical sxs – more than half have depression or anxiety d/o
ii. Multiple physical or somatic symptoms or “high sx count”
iii. High severity of the presenting somatic sx
iv. Chronic pain
v. Sxs for more than 6 weeks
vi. Physician rating as a “difficult encounter”
vii. Recent stress
viii. Low self-rating of overall health
ix. High use of health care services
x. Substance abuse
What are the depression screeners?
a. Over the past 2 wks, have you felt down, depressed, hopeless?
b. Over past 2 weeks have you felt little interest or pleasure in doing things?
c. ID potential for suicide.
What is teh MMSE?
5-10 min, most used, measure changes over time
What does the MMSE test?
orientation, recall, attention, calculation, language, registration
What is the mini cog?
3-5 min, quick, draw clock
What does the mini cog test?
recall, processing, sequencing, spatial
What is the isaac set test?
5 min, ask pt to name 10 from each 4 groups: fruits, animals, colors, towns
dont rush or prompt
must remember whats listed
What does the isaac set test?
executive functioning, alertness, attn span, recent memory
What is the scores with the isaac test?
40 total (one point each)
