What are the 4 pillars of medical ethics?
A
Autonomy
Respecting a patient’s right to make their own decisions, including choosing or declining treatment.
Beneficence
The duty to “do good” for a patient. For example, staying on after your shift to ensure a patient’s safety.
Non-maleficence
The duty to “not do bad” for a patient. For example, not prescribing antibiotics to a patient if you suspect a viral infection.
Justice
Treating all people equally and fairly. For example, learning how different skin conditions present on different skin colors.
