measuring vascular pressure Flashcards
Aortic pulse pressure
normal is 49mmhg (20-80mmHg)
pulse pressure= SP-DP
what factors affect pulse pressure ?
- Stroke Volume
- vessel elasticity (Aorta)
what is the mean arterial pressure ?
Avg pressure within artery over complete cardiac cycle
normal values 70-105
right sides pressure
CVP- (0-8) RVEDP- (0-8) RVESP 15-30 (24) Pulm art. pressure diastolic (8-15) PAPS- (15-30)
left sided pressures
PCWP- 4-12 LAP 4-12 LVEDP 4-12 LVESP 90-140 AORTIC PRESSSURE S 90-140 AORTIC PRESSURE D 60-80
what’s the value of doing a pulmonary catheter monitoring ?
Assess venous return
RV/LV function
Cardiac Output
Assess PVR and SVR
what’s the formula for calculating resistace
SVR= MAP- CVP
———————— x80
CO
what’s the normal range for SVR
800-1600 dynesseccm-5
what are the factors affecting SVR ?
1.)blood vessel diameter (the smaller the vessel the more resistance.
2.)Local Autoregulation – Increasing metabolic demand vasodilation
3.)Sympathetic/Parasympathetic tone
a.)Baroreceptors in Aortic Arch and Carotid vessels
I.)High BP will stimulate receptors and cause a reflex vasodilation
B.)Chemoreceptors in Aortic Arch and Carotid vessels
Changes in CO2 and Pao2 will affect vasomotor tone
4.)Hypothalmus - Increasing temp vasodilation, decreasing temp causes vasoconstriction
factors affecting PVR
same factors as SVT
more emphasis on local PaO2 and CO2 gradients due to hypoxic vasocontraction
