1

Q

Uncal Herniation

A

Uncus (portion of hippocampal gyrus) herniates and presses opposite side of brainstem and shit against incisura - sharp edge of tentorium

Q

4 Problems from Uncal Herniation

A

III Compression
Kernohan’s Notch - laceration of corticospinal tracts on opposite side of mass/lesion, so IPSILATERAL paralysis to lesion
Hydrocephalus from compression of aqueduct
Basilar artery laceration, so hemorrhage

Q

Papilledema

A

Optic disc displacement/blurriness on fundoscopic exam. Suggests mass/increased IC pressure
