Restrictive and binge-purge
Difference b/w Anorexia Bingepurge and Bulimia
Anorexia underweight and keep doing it, bulimia not
2 NT Relations of AN
5HT decreased in current cases and elevated in recovered - don’t know if causative or result of starvation
DA disregulation
4 Hormonal Changes of AN
Hypersecretion of CRH increases cortisol
Decrease in LH leads to amenorrhea
Leptin decrease to reg body fat stores
Reduction of thyroid hormones, can’t handle cold
Gross Brain Features of AN
Atrophy from similar mech as stress/HPA disreg
Possible Meds
SSRIs like Fluoxetine
Russell’s Signs
Lesions or calluses on knuckles from repeated induced vomiting
Ionic Change w/ Bulimia
Hypokalemic hypochloremic alkalosis, bc lose Cl purging and then kidneys compensate by losing K
Eating Disorder NOS
All criteria AN but has menses or
All criteria BN but binges occur less than twice/week or <3 months
