Malocclusion Flashcards
Angle’s Molar classification (class 1)
Mesio buccal cusp of the upper first permanent molar should occlude with the anterior buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar
Angle’s Molar classification (class 2)
Mesio buccal cusp of the upper first permanent molar occludes anterior to the anterior buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar
Class 3
Mesio buccal cusp of the upper first permanent molar should occlude posterior to the anterior buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar
Class 1 (incisors)
the lower incisor edge occludes with or lie immediately below the cingulum plateau of the upper central incisors
Class II division 1
The lower incisor edges lie posterior to the cingulum plateau of the upper central incisors. The overjet is increased and centrals are usually proclined
Class II division 2
The lower incisor edges lie posterior to the cingulum plateau of the upper central incisors. The overjet is usually minimal and the centrals are usually retroclined
Local(non-skeletal) causes of malocclusion
- Anomalies in number of teeth
- Problems in the permanent dentition
- Problems in the deciduous dentition
- Soft tissue problems
Aetiology of malocclusion
1) Tongue Thrust
2) Digit sucking (sucking thumb)
3) Super numeraries (extra teeth)
4) Oligodontia (ED, missing laterals)
5) Transposition (maxillary and mandibular arch)
6) Abnormal form
7) Loss of permanent (Trauma and compromised teeth)
8) Submergence of deciduous
9) Early loss of deciduous (mesial drift resulting in secondary crowding)
10) Retention of deciduous
11) Fleshy frenum
