Malignant Neoplasm Flashcards
Multiple Myeloma AKA
Plasma Cell Sarcoma
> 50, Cachexia, weight loss, anemia, MC primary malignancy of bone, malignant proliferation of plasma cell infiltrating the bone marrow
MM
Multiple dark densities that are similar in size (PUNCHED OUT LESION).
Can cause pathological collapse (Vertebral Plana)
MM
Rain drop skull
MM
Labs: 1. M Spike on ImmunoElectroPhoresis
- Reversal of the albumin/ globulin ratio
- Bence Jones Protein
- Elevated ESR
Special test: Bone scan: Cold
MM
MC malignant tumor of the bone
Metastatic Disease (Lytic and Blastic)
> 40 YO, recent unexplained weigh loss, skeletal pain worse at night.
Lab: Alkaline phosphatase
Special test: Bone scan
Lytic mets
Trabeculae reabsorbed turns the bone darker in color. MOTH eaten or permeative pattern of destruction.
“EATS” away pedicles of bone
“Swiss Cheese” appearance in skull
Lytic Mets
MC metastasis at age 20-40.
Ivory white vertebrae with ANTERIOR body SCALLOPING
Hodgkin disease
Unilateral hilar lymphadenopathy in Caucasian males seen on PA Chest
Hodkin
Need biopsy to confirm (REED STERNBERG cell)
Hodgkin
> 40 YO, IVORY WHITE vertebrae, no cortical thickening or bone enlargement.
Lab: Increase Alkaline phospatase
Special test: Bone Scan
Blastic Mets
Paget’s AKA
Osteotitis Deformans
Males, >50 YO, causes cortical thickening, PICTURE Frame vertebrae, Increased bone density, coarsened trabeculae, bone expansion and BOWING DEFORMITY
Paget’s
Stages of Paget
- Lytic or destructive
- Combined
- Sclerotic
- Malignant (Osteosarcoma)
