What happens during stage 1 of male sexual maturation?
The first stage of sexual development is characterized by a fat spurt: Adipose tissue increases throughout the body. The initial sign of male puberty is the development of a more feminine body form. This is because estrogen-producing cells in the testis are stimulated by the pituitary gonadotrophins before the androgen-producing cells.
At this time the scrotum begins to increase in size and may show some increase or change in pigmentation while the penis remains juvenile.

Greatest increase in height takes place durign this stage
Pigmented facial hair on upper lip indicates boy is about to reach peak growth.
Spurt of muscle growth occurs.
Pubic hair appears more adult but no spread to medial thighs
Penis and scrotum are near adult size
What happens during stage 4 of male sexual maturation?
Hair on the chin and increase in muscle strength
Pubic hair is nearly adult with spread to medial thigh and some spread beginning in sagittal direction towards the umbilicus.
Scrotum and penis reach full adult size.
Height spurt ending
Weight gain
Muscle strength spurt
