How is asthma treated?
Call for help
Take history to confirm asthma background
Oxygen via facemask
Salbutamol via nebulizer
Take history to confirm background of chronic asthma
What is chest pain indicative of?
Chest pain can be caused by lots of pathologies
Acute coronary syndrome, aortic dissection, pulmonary emobolus, pancreatitis, pneumothorax
Chest pain that is new and associated with pallor and swearing obviously causing distress to the patient
How should chest pain be treated?
Place patient in comfortable position
call for help
Have oxygen available
Give GTN if patient usually has this
Consider 300mg aspirin (hold off on this)
How is hypoglycaemia to be treated?
Confirm diagnosis with BSL
In awake patient administer glucose solution
If uncooperative or drowsy call for help
If IV access available give 10% dextrose solution
What are the treatments for epilepsy?
DRSABC
Remove dangerous stuff around patient
Take the time
Provide basic airway support and oxygen and avoid suction/putting fingers in the mouth
Give abortive medication if status epilepticus (>5 mins)
Midazolam and diazepam can be administered
What should be done with stroke patients?
Call for help
What should be done for vasovagal syncope?
If confident it is vasovagal
It is all about returning bloodflow to the head
Lie patient down
What are the questions on the exam going to relate to?
Concentration of IM adrenaline you give for anaphylaxis
