Obstetric history
Gravida = number of times pregnant
Para = number of birth
Calcium and Vit D requirement for pregnant women
1000mg Calcium
600 IU Vit D
Two immunizations routinely recommended for pregnant people
inactivated influenza vaccine
single dose of Tdap
Preeclampsia
present with elevated blood pressure and evidence of organ damage, often kidney or liver
can only be treated by delivering baby
usually presents during 1st trimester
Recommendation to prevent preeclampsia….
start low dose aspirin at end of 1st trimester for women at risk (T1/T2D, hx of preeclampsia, htn)
Which meds recommended for use in pregnancy HTN
labetalol
methyldopa
nifedipine
Meds that can be used for infections in pregnancy
Avoid fluconazole, can use topical antifungals
UTI = cephalexin, ampicillin, Macrobid and Bactrim last line in 1st trimester and shouldn’t be used last 2 weeks of pregnancy
Preferred anticoagulant in pregnancy
LMWH > UFH
dont use warfarin
which pain meds shouldn’t be used while breastfeeding
Tramadol and Codeine
risk of excessive sleepiness, breathing difficulty and or death
