what is pressuposition

A

mentionning p means q must be true. if q is true whether or not p is true. pressuposition are part of the common ground. negating statement does not negate the presupposition. Have u met bill. presuposses bill exists.

A

homophones = different spelling, same pronunciation (see, sea)

what is polysemy

A

words with more than one related meaning. almost always spelled the same. arise due to semantic change . Word referring to one meaning is extended to refer to a related meaning. Polysemy is not vagueness.

holds when a word has two or more
related meanings: cap (cover your hat, cover your bottle)
