What is a brand name drug?
FDA approved prescription or over the counter drug. Sold by a company under a specific brand name. Protected by a drug patent.
What is a generic drug?
Manufactured to be the same in dosage, route of administration, strength, safety, quality and effectiveness.
What is a drug’s brand or trade name?
The name its manufacturer gives the drug. Thus one drug might have several brand names, each assigned by a different manufacturer.
Generic and brand drugs contain different ingredients. T/F?

What does API stand for?

What is a drug recall?
Occurs when a prescription or over-the-counter medicine is removed from the market because it is either defective or potentially harmful.
Define prescribe.
To order a medication from the pharmacy, usually by prescription.
Define dispense.
To personally hand the patient a medication to take later; in ambulatory care, drug samples and stock samples are commonly dispensed.
Define administer.
To prepare and personally five the patient medication through any method at the point of care.
Are medical assistants allowed to prescribe or order medications?
No, but may be able to dispense or administer certain medications.
