It is a Latin phrase meaning “without hope of recovery,” and is applicable to any form of derelict
What is flotsam? Examples?
Flotsam is: defined as “goods from a vessel floating on the surface having been lost overboard as a result of wreck or accident.”

What is jetsam?
Goods from a vessel found floating on the surface after intentional casting overboard (jettisoning), usually to protect the safety of the ship
What is lagan?
Objects or goods cast overboard, attached to a floating marker to facilitate recovery and establish a right of claim
What is salvage?
A voluntary action rendered to rescue maritime property in peril.
Difference between towage and salvage?
Towage is offered under “routine” scenarios, whereas salvage is applicable to scenarios with an implied danger, hazard or peril
