Helps control BP (Angiotensin -> angiotensin I)
Erythropoetin EPO
Stimulates production of RBC’s in bone marrow and helps with production of Vit D.
Causes of actor renal failure
Pre-renal: hypoperfusion, sepsis
Renal: ATN damage to tubules due to ischaemia or nephrotoxins
Post-renal: renal tract obstruction (stones, tumour)
GFR (glomerular filtration rate)
Volume of fluid filtered from the glomerular capillaries into the bowman’s capsule per unit time
Renal cell carcinoma
85% all renal cancers. Usually 50-70. 2:1 male predominance.
Often found incidentally
Transitional cell carcinoma
Commonest malignant condition in the bladder
Testicular tumours
Most common malignancy in males 15-44
