Lecture 13 Unit 2 Flashcards
what is daltons law?
in a mixture of gases each gas will exert a pressure that is proportional to its concentration
what is partial pressure
the pressure exerted by each gas will be a function of the total gas pressure
what is our atmosphere made of?
79% N2, 21% O2, <1% CO2
what is the pressure in deoxygenated blood in O2 and CO2?
PO2- 40 mmHg
PCO2- 45 mmHg
what is the pressure in oxygenated blood in O2 and CO2?
PO2- 100 mmHg
PCO2- 40 mmHg
how much fresh air enters the lungs and mixes with the FRC?
500 mL
what happens to the gases in the lungs when fresh air mixes with lung gas stores?
the O2 in the alveoli is increased slightly and the CO2 is decreased slightly but average alveolar values do not change very much
how is O2 removed from the lungs during inspiration?
by the blood
how is CO2 exhaled?
it is produced in the tissues and moves from the blood to the lungs and is exhaled
what does O2 do at the tissues?
leaves the capillary and diffuses into the cells
what does CO2 produced in the tissue enter?
the capillary
what is the typical O2 consumption at rest?
250
what is the typical O2 consumption at max elevation
3,500
what is the typical CO2 consumption at rest?
200
what is the typical CO2 consumption at max elevation
3,800
