LEARNING THEORIES Bandura's variation studies Flashcards
what are the 2 variation studies
- imitation of a film mediated role model
- influence of vicarious reinforcement
what was different about the film mediated role model to the original
aim - to test whether aggression on films would be imitated the same way
sample - 48 boys, 48 girls split into 4 groups
concluded that exposure to any aggressive model will increase levels of aggression
what were the results of the film mediated role model
live model - 83 acts
filmed model - 92 acts
cartoon model - 99 acts
control - 54 acts
what was different about the influence of vicarious reinforcement to the original
aim - to test if consequences would affect imitations of aggression
sample - 33 boys, 33 girls, split into 3 groups
procedure - rocky = role model
- in reward group = rocky got a sweet and got praised
- in punishment = rocky got told he was a bully and got hit with a newspaper
concluded - children less likely when role model is being punished but no consequence showed you don’t need vicarious reinforcement
what were the results of the influence of vicarious reinforcement
model reward = same as no consequence - girls 2.8 and boys 3.5
model punished = less imitation - girls 0.5
