Landing Knowledge Flashcards
When should the landing config be established?
- Early on the final approach
- By the FAF on an instrument approach
Prior to calling for/selecting the final flap setting what MUST be checked?
Flight spoilers are FULLY retracted
At what speed must the reversers be at 30% N1?
60kts
At what speed can the flight controls be exchanged?
<60kts
How do you verify that spoilers are set to 0
Spoiler Lever
When is the FO required to maintain lateral control during roll out on a crosswind landing?
With aileron by the CP when briefed
When is Idle Reverse Thrust Landing (IRTL) prohibited?
- Wet/Contaminated runways
- RRC <5 reported
- Overweight landings
- ANY Tailwind component exists
- Braking action 7500ft without reverser credit
What additional conditions would restrict the use of Idle Reverse Thrust Landing?
- When excessive BTMS temps may be encountered
- High altitude airports with high ambient temps
- Landing traffic close behind
- LAHSO ops
How is the stopping distance minimized on wet or contaminated runways?
- Make a firm touchdown
- Apply max reverse thrust (Symmetrical)
- Apply firm and symmetrical brake pressure (No pumping)
- Maintain runway centerline with rudder
Who has the final authority to accept or decline a LAHSO clearance?
PIC
When should a LAHSO be declined?
When it compromises safety
What is the required WX to accept a LAHSO clearance?
VASI/PAPI: 1000ft 3SM
Otherwise: 1500ft 5SM
What runway conditions prohibit LAHSO?
-Wet/Contaminated
What distance is required for a LAHSO?
Available landign distance must be greater than what is on the TLR (Dispatch Release)
What is required for a night LAHSO?
FAA-Approved LAHSO night lighting system installed and operating
What is the maximum performance landing procedures?
- Full flaps (45)
- Cross threshold at 50ft and at Vref
- Avoid extended flair
- Apply MAX reverse thrust
- After MLG have touched, lower nosewheel immediately
- Firm and steady MAX brakes until plane reaches safe taxi speed
What factors increase landing distance?
- Unstabilized approach
- Crossing RWY threshold above Vref
- Crossing RWY threshold above screen height
- Extended flare
- Touching down beyond touchdown zone
- Improper application of available deceleration devices
How much would landing distance increase at 10kts above Vref?
20%
How much would landing distance increase at 100ft above threshold?
35%
How much would landing distance increase by extending the flare by 3 seconds?
25%
How much would an unstablized approach 10kts above Vref and 100ft above threshold increase landing distance?
80%
What factors would direct you to consider and overweight landing?
- Runway and perf landing weight factors
- Approach weather and runway conditions
- Tire speed limit
- Status of aircraft(Anti-skid/brakes/spoilers)
- Time and altitude needed to burn off fuel vs weather/traffic/ and or need to land
At touchdown, what is the maximum rate of descent for an overweight landing?
< 360fpm
Who performs the overweight landing?
Captain
What are the FO’s responsibility on an overweight landing?
Monitors Rate of Descent
Is it required to declare an emergency on an overweight landing?
Not unless deemed necessary by the crew
What are the EXCESSIVE ASYMMETRY OR LOSS OF BRAKING memory items?
- WHEEL BRAKES: MOMENTARILY RELEASED
- ANTI-SKID: OFF
- WHEEL BRAKES: RE-APPLY AS REQUIRED
