General OPS: Cold Weather Flashcards
What are the conditions conducive to icing on the ground?
-OAT is <10 C and -Visible moisture or -Operating on contaminated ramps/taxiways/runways
What are the conditions conducive to icing in flight?
-TAT indicates <10 C
and
-Visible moisture is encountered
In flight, at what temperature do icing conditions no longer exist?
In Flight SAT (static air temp) is equal to or
Takeoff is prohibited when which types of contaminates are adhering to the critical surfaces?
- Frost
- Snow
- Slush
When is cowl anti-ice required in flight? Wing anti-ice?
Cowl:
-Flying in icing conditions
or
-ICE annunciation by the ice detection system
Wing:
-ICE annunciation by the ice detection system
or
-Flying in icing conditions and airspeed is less than 230 KIAS
or
-In Icing conditions during descent from cruise altitude
or
-Prior to extending flaps for all approaches when TAT is 10C or colder
During climb (High Pwr Settings), when wing and cowl or cowl anti-ice is required, what is the procedure for selecting anti-ice?
-Wing anti-ice on PRIOR to Cowl anti-ice
Prevents over pressure relief valve from opening
What are important warnings and note for flight in Icing conditions?
- Even small amounts of ice on leading edge and change stall speed, characteristics or warning margin by Stall Protection System
- Do NOT land below Vref or land with VISIBLE ice on the wing leading edge, except under failure conditions
