What is the purpose of the external inspection?
Assessment of the overall condition of the aircraft.
What is used as a guide to complete the External inspection?

Does the external inspection checklist include everything that needs to be checked?
No, due diligence must be given to the aircraft as a whole.
How often do FFOD items need to be checked?
Prior to the First Flight Of the Day, but can be checked at crew’s discretion
Are the external lights required to be illuminated during the external inspection?
No, just condition of the lights and lenses overall condition (Unless night operations)
When is the Preflight External inspection required?
For each flight
Can Pre- and Post-Flight inspections be combined?
Yes, when on a through flight and the flight crew has remained with the aircraft
When is the post-flight external inspection required?
For each flight
When can an post-flight external inspection be waived?
- If the Outbound crew is at the aircraft before the terminating checklist
- Aircraft must remain powered
- Outbound crew must perform external preflight
- Inbound crew is responsible for resolving all know discrepancies prior to leaving the aircraft
When are the fuel doors required to be checked?
Must be verified closed and secured by the flight crew after every refueling operation
What are the most critical areas of the fan blade?
The root
When inspecting a fan blade, what is required to be reported to MX?
Any damage or defect with SHARP corners or visible CRACKS
When is tire wear required or damage required to be reported to MX?
- Worn to the bottom of any groove in the tread are max of the 1/8 circumference of the tire
- The top(outer) cord is exposed for a max of 1/8 the circumference of the tire and the cord is exposed to a max of 1 inch wide at the fastest wearing location
- Tire is worn through the thread reinforcing plys to the undertread
- There is groove cracking, embedded objects, skid burns, sidewall cuts, cracks, bulges, blisters, or separation extending to or beyond the cord
How is window/windshield delamination or crackling identified?
- Fuzzy
- Transparent
- Translucent
What is the allowance for delamination/crackling along the edge of the windshield/window ? Corners?
Edge: 2 inches
Corners: 4 inches
