lab vocab Flashcards
cerebrum
the largest division of the brain
- divided into 2 hemispheres
- each one has 5 lobes
features of cerebrum
- gyri
- sucli (central sulcus)
- fissures (longitudinal & sylvian/lateral)
gyri
elevated ridges
sulci
small grooves dividing the gyri
central sulcus
divides the frontal lobe from the parietal lobe
fissures
deep grooves generally dividing large regions/lobes of the brain
longitudinal fissure
divides the 2 cerebral hemispheres
sylvian/lateral fissure
divides the temporal lobe from the frontal and parietal lobes
what are the 5 lobes in each hemisphere?
- frontal
- parietal
- temporal
- occipital
- insular
frontal lobe function
- memory info
- emotions
- personality
- decision making/reasoning
occipital lobe function
- processing, integration, and interpretation of vision and visual stimuli
parietal lobe function
- touch perception
- body orientation
- sensory discrimination
temporal lobe function
- perception of auditory signal
- speech comprehension
- memory
the order of cranial nerves
- rostral to caudal
- 1-12
cerebrospinal fluid
the fluid made from the choroid plexus in each ventricle
CSF circulation
- CSF secreted by choroid plexus in each lateral ventricle
- CSF flows through interventricular foramina into 3rd ventricle
- choroid plexus in third ventricle adds more CSF
- CSF flows down cerebral aqueduct to 4th ventricle
- choroid plexus adds more CSF
- CSF flows out 2 lateral apertures and one median aperture
- CSF fills subarachnoid space and bathes external surfaces of brain and spinal cord
- at arachnoid villi, CSF is reabsorbed into venous blood of dural venous sinuses
