Tidal Volume
2
Q

A
Vital Capacity
4
Q
*** Define TV ***
A
- The amound of air that moves into or out of the lungs in quiet respiration
- about 500mL
5
Q
*** Define ERV ***
A

6
Q
*** Define VC ***
A
The amount of air in the lungs that can be exhaled after a maximal forced inspiration.
7
Q
*** What is the Formula for Vital Capacity and how is it measured? ***
A
- VC = TV + IRV + ERV
- Measurement is the difference between forced inhalation and forced exhalation
8
Q
*** How is Expiratory Reserve Volume measured? ***
A
Measurement is the difference between quiet exhalation & forced exhalation.
9
Q
*** What is the formula to figure out TV when spirometer that is not sensitve enough to take a direct TV reading?
How is this performed ***
A
- (TV+ERV)-ERV=TV
- Step 1: Take a quiet breath inhale, and at the peak of inhale, perform a forced exhale. Take reading for TV+ERV
- Step 2: Take a quiet breath inhale and at the end of a quiet breathing exhale, perform a forced exhale. Take reading for ERV.
- Subtract reading 2 from reading 1 for TV
