Characters of tetanus prone wound
Pathology of Tetanus
- The bacillus remains at the โฆโฆโฆ but its exotoxin reaches the โฆโฆ. along the blood stream, the motor nerves or both.
- Once the toxin reaches the nervous system, it is at once fixed by the motor cells and cannot be detected in the blood or CSF.
Tetanus antitoxin can neutralize the toxin only โฆโฆ.. it gets fixed to the nervous tissue.
The toxin increases excitability of the motor cells of the medulla and spinal cord, therefore, the slightest stimuli produce โฆโฆ..
Death results from โฆโฆโฆ.

Prevention of tetanus
Every child should be immunized by routine DPT vaccine at 2, 4, 6 months with a booster dose of tetanus toxoid is taken every 7-10 years
- If patient previously received 3 or more doses of toxoid & the last one within 10 years:
(Prevention of tetanus)
If patient previously received less than 3 doses:
(Prevention of tetanus)
If patient not previously immunized:
