Joints Flashcards
1
Q
two main types of joints and what are they
A
Diarthrosis- allowing the bones to move
Synarthrosis- little or no movement
2
Q
Synostosis (and ex)
A
- No movement
- Joints of the pelivis (hip bone of ilium, ischium and pubis)
3
Q
syndesmosis (and ex)
A
- no bone movement
- connection via lig
- ex sutures of skull
4
Q
Synchondrosis (ex)
A
little movement
- has cartilage inbetween
- 1st rib and sternum
5
Q
diarthrosis joint classifications
A
uniaxial- Hinge + pivot
Biaxial- condyloid and saddle
Multiaxial- Ball + socket
6
Q
Where is syndesmosis and synchondrosis on vertebral conn
A
synchondrosis- minimal movement at articular process
Syndesmosis- near the vertebral bodies (ligs minimize movement)
7
Q
composition of ivds
A
- 10-20 concentric sheets of collagen fibres, called lamellae, tightly packed together
- angle of fibres is orientated 65 degrees and flips everylayer
