What are the indications of use for Ipratropium?
Maintenance therapy in patients with COPD, bronchospasm
What is the drug action for Ipratropium?
Bronchodilator
What are the contraindications for Ipratropium?
Glaucoma, allergy to Ipratropium, has a MDI for an allergy to soybeans and or peanuts.
What are the side effects for Ipratropium?
Dry mouth, headache, nausea vomiting cramping, and tachycardia.
What are some other things to know about Ipratropium?
Most often used in combination with or directly after Albuterol, not to be used alone in acute respiratory distress, may use premixed combination with Albuterol for first adult treatment, and it is in pregnancy category B
What is the usual dose of Ipratropium?
Adults: .5 Mg nebulized with 2.5 ml saline
Pediatric (less than 12 years old):.25 mg
What are you going to monitor, report, and document with the use of Ipratropium?
You are going to monitor ECG in patients with a cardiac history and all patients over 45 years of age, you are going to report and document vital signs and breath sounds no more than 5 minutes after the treatment and at the completion of the treatment.
