What is hypoxia?
It is when the body or a part of the body is deprived from adequate oxygen supply.
What is cyanosis?
It is blue or purple coloration of the skin that indicates lack of oxygen in the blood. Nail beds, mucous membranes
What is angioedema?
It is the rapid swelling of the epidermis, subcutaneous tissue, mucosa membranes.
What is croup?
An acute viral infection of the upper airway.
What is epiglottitis?
It is the inflammation of the epiglottis.
What is afebrile?
It is without a fever.
What are the signs and symptoms of emphysema?
Dyspnea, accessory muscle use, tachypnea, diaphoresis, diminished breath sounds.
What are some treatments for emphysema?
Position of comfort, administration of supplemental oxygen, CPAP
What is hyperventilation syndrome?
It is associated with situations in which the patient is emotionally upset or very excited. Patients suffering panic attacks will also suffer from hyperventilation syndrome.
What is a pulmonary embolism?
A sudden blockage of blood flow through a pulmonary artery or one of its branches. Can be from a blood clot, air bubble, fat particle, foreign body, or amniotic fluid.
What are the signs and symptoms of a pulmonary embolism?
Sudden onset of unexplained dyspnea, sudden onset of sharp stabbing chest pain, tachypnea, tachycardia, syncope, cyanosis, SPO2 lower than 94%
What are the 6 rights?
Right patient, right drug, right dose, right time, right route, right documentation, + expiration date and color
What is dyspnea?
Dyspnea is shortness of breath.
