A

- assess body’s ability to fight infection
- monitor disease progress

- determine if a bone marrow exam may be necessary

What are some struggles of hematology?
A
- results may be non-specific
- disparate conditions may cause similar findings
- can be diagnostic when leukemic cells or hemoparasites are present but this is rare

Why would you take single samples for hematology vs repeat sampling?
A
- snapshot of blood cells at a single point in time
- helpful in acute disease or health screening

When are repeat hematology samples used?
A
for chronic conditions where serial samples help with management
