Definition of the infection
It is the entry and development or multiplication of an infectious agent in the host
Definition of Disease agent
It is a living or non-living substance which may initiate a disease process under certa8n circumstances
Communicable disease
An illness due to a specific infectious agent or its toxic products capable of being directly or indirectly transmitted from man to man, animal to man or from environment
Infectious disease (ID)
Clinically manifest disease of man resulting from infection
Contagious disease
It is the disease transmission through direct contact as scabies, STD, Leprosy.
All infectious diseases are communicable.

Infestation
Presence of parasites on the body surface or lumen of the gut

Contamination
Inanimate objects used by patients (water, food, or fomites)
Droplet infection
Direct protection of a spray of droplets of saliva and naso-pharyngeal secretions during coughing, sneezing or even speaking.
Opportunistic infection
It is an infection by organism that takes the opportunity provided by a defect in the host defense mechanism as AIDS, CMV, TB.
Nosocomial infection
It is an infection affecting patients while in a hospital or other health care facility as UTI, HBV, infection of surgical wounds.
