Ramps

A

Slope & Rise

  • The least possible slope shall be used for any ramp.
  • The maximum slope of a ramp in new construction shall be 1:12. (one foot of ramp for each inch of rise)
  • The maximum rise for any run shall be 30 inches. (ramp sections may be up to 30 feet long)

a) Clear Width:

  • The minimum clear width of a ramp shall be 36 inches.

b) Wheelchair Passage Width.

  • 48 inches is the minimum width needed for an ambulatory person to pass a non-ambulatory or semi-ambulatory person.
  • 60 inches is the minimum width needed for two non-ambulatory or semi-ambulatory people to pass.
