Q

Trendelenburg gait

Compensated vs Uncompensated

A

- Uncompensated Trendelenburg Gait:

  • No significant upper body lean.
  • Noticeable pelvic drop on the side opposite the weak hip abductors.
  • May be seen in individuals who are unable or unwilling to compensate with their upper body.

- Compensated Trendelenburg Gait:

  • Significant upper body lean towards the side of the weak hip abductors.
  • Reduces or prevents the pelvic drop on the opposite side.
  • Often seen in individuals who instinctively adjust their posture to maintain balance and stability.
